I just LOVE goamsio! Although there are many variations, this delicious umami salty Japanese condiment makes all of my food SING! I sprinkle mine over salads, soups, steamed veggies and more! I use it all the time for extra flavour and love that I am getting minerals from the seaweed as well as the whole unrefined salt! It is really important you use unrefined highly mineralised whole salt and not table salt! The brands I prefer to use are: Real Salt (salt harvested from ancient sea beds in Utah, USA), or HimalaSalt (Pink Himalayan Crystal Salt mined in Khewra, Pakistan from an area known as The Salt Range, millions of years old) or Celtic Sea Salt. Unhulled Sesame seeds are rich in magnesium and calcium two essential minerals that help regulate blood pressure, reduce migraine headaches and aid in better sleep, especially in women suffering from menopause-induced sleep disturbances.

Recipe by Priscilla Soligo Course: Condiments, Salads, Sauces & Dressings

  • 160g 1 Cup Unhulled Black Sesame Seeds (or brown, not white)

  • 8g ¼ Cup Dried Wild Atlantic Kombu, cut into thin strips

  • 43g 2½ Tbsps Unrefined High Mineralised Whole Salt (I use brands, Real salt, or HimalaSalt, or Celtic Sea Salt)

  • In a dry pan over low heat, toast the sesame seeds and kombu together for 10 minutes. Allow to cool completely on a plate before proceeding to the next step.
  • Place cooled toasted sesame seeds, kombu and salt in a food processor and process ingredients down to a sand like consistency, approx. 2-3 minutes.
  • Place gomasio into a glass jar sealed container ready for use to sprinkle over your salads, steamed veggies, brown rice, or whatever your heart desires! You needn’t add salt to your dishes just add super healthy gomasio instead and enjoy the salty sesame umami flavour.

  • Storage: Store gomasio on the counter top, or if you live in a humid environment in the fridge is fine. Lasts for months!
